Death of Sub-Adult Tiger Cub in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (Buffer) Zone

A sub-adult tiger cub was found dead on 6 February 2026 in the Shivni Forest Range of the buffer zone of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve.
On receipt of the information, Forest Range Officer Mr. Arvind Pendam along with his staff immediately reached the site. Assistant Conservator of Forests (Buffer Zone) Mr. S. S. Dubey, NTCA representative Mr. Bandu Dhotre, representative of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Mr. Mukesh Bhandakkar, Dr. Vilas Gavkhare (Assistant Commissioner, Animal Husbandry Department, Mul), Dr. Bajrang Savare (Livestock Development Officer, Sindewahi), and Dr. Kundan Podchelwar (Veterinary Officer, TTC) was also present during the inspection.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the death of the cub occurred due to infighting between two tigers. The carcass was found in Compartment No. 842 of Shivni Reserved Forest. Injuries were observed on the neck region, and the hind portion of the body was found partially consumed. Due to the condition of the carcass, the sex of the deceased tiger could not be ascertained.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at the site, and as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), the carcass was disposed of through cremation.
