The world-renowned Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve has once again emerged on the national stage with pride as Ms. Shahnaz Suleman Baig etched her name in history by winning the Billy Arjan Singh Award for Best Wildlife Guide of the Year – West India at the 8th TOFT (Travel Operators for Tigers) Wildlife and Nature Tourism Awards 2025.
Chosen from eight shortlisted nominees across West India, this honour is a landmark achievement not only for Shahnaz Baig but also for Maharashtra’s wildlife tourism sector. She has also been formally recognised as Maharashtra’s First Tourist Lady Guide of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, a milestone moment for women empowerment in conservation-based tourism.
The prestigious award ceremony was held at Bikaner House, New Delhi, in the presence of leading conservationists and tourism professionals from across the country.
The award was presented by Mr. Julian Matthews, Founder and Ambassador of TOFT, along with distinguished jury members Mr. Vishal Singh, Co-Founder and Director of TOFT, and Mr. Bittu Sahgal, Founder of Sanctuary Asia—one of India’s most respected wildlife conservation voices.

The TOFT Tiger Tourism Awards, recognised across India and Nepal, honour individuals and institutions that demonstrate excellence in responsible tourism, ethical wildlife practices, conservation values, and community engagement. Shahnaz Baig’s selection highlights Tadoba’s commitment to high guiding standards, conservation awareness, and inclusive livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Commending her achievement, the jury praised her deep knowledge of wildlife, professionalism, ethical guiding approach, and dedication to inspiring local youth and women to engage positively with conservation and nature-based tourism.

This national recognition not only celebrates an individual’s excellence but also reinforces Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve’s reputation as one of India’s leading destinations for sustainable and responsible wildlife tourism. Shahnaz Baig’s journey stands as an inspiration, symbolising how conservation, community participation, and women leadership can together shape the future of wildlife tourism in India.

At the same award ceremony, Shahin Sheikh of Pagdandi Resort was honoured as Best Naturalist of Tadoba. Additionally, Svasara Resort and Vriksh Eco Resort were also recognised with special honours for their outstanding contributions.
