The Morwa Airport, situated approximately 9 kilometers from Chandrapur city, has emerged as a strategically important location for regional air connectivity. Its geographical position and terrain make it ideally suited for aviation operations, offering potential for both civil and commercial air services in the near future.
Currently, the airport is capable of handling small and medium-sized aircraft such as Cessna 90, AB 200, CJ1, as well as all types of helicopters. These facilities are primarily used for VIP movements, chartered flights, and government operations.
According to MLA and former Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, the airport could be developed further to enable passenger air services, provided the runway is extended by an additional 700 meters. The extension would allow larger commercial aircraft to operate safely, connecting Chandrapur directly to major cities like Nagpur, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.
He emphasized that the development of Morwa Airport would not only boost tourism, especially given Chandrapur’s proximity to the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, but also open new opportunities for trade, business, and industrial growth in the region. Improved air connectivity could attract more visitors, investors, and entrepreneurs to Chandrapur district.
“The geographical advantages of Morwa Airport make it one of the most suitable locations in the region for passenger flight operations. Once the runway is extended, starting regular commercial services will become feasible,” said Sudhir Mungantiwar.
With growing public demand and government focus on regional air connectivity, the expansion of Morwa Airport could mark a significant step towards enhancing infrastructure and accessibility in Chandrapur district.
